Landfill Gas Monitoring System

The End-to-End Landfill Gas Monitoring Solution is a cutting-edge system designed to monitor and transmit real-time data on landfill gas composition. This solution is intended to provide continuous, accurate data on key environmental factors such as temperature, barometric pressure, and landfill gas generation, enabling proactive management and mitigation of gas-related events. The system is wireless, cloud-connected, and capable of real-time data transmission and monitoring, allowing stakeholders to stay informed of critical conditions at all times.

Our Role:
  • Prototype Design and Development:

    We designed and developed the complete prototype, integrating a hardware platform based on the NXP microcontroller. This involved selecting and incorporating key components for accurate gas composition measurement, temperature and pressure sensing, and seamless wireless data transmission.

  • Firmware Porting and Hardware Bring-Up:

    We ported the firmware and ensured smooth hardware bring-up on the new platform. This was critical for enabling all sensors and connectivity features to work in unison, ensuring the system's reliability and performance.

  • Integration of Connectivity for Cloud Communication:

    The system integrates NB-IoT/LTE connectivity, enabling real-time data transmission to the cloud. This allows remote monitoring and analytics of landfill gas composition, pressure, and temperature, providing timely and actionable information for landfill managers.

  • Regulatory Compliance Preparation:

    To ensure the solution met industry standards, we prepared the necessary regulatory pre-tests for FCC compliance. Additionally, we conducted a gap analysis and pre-compliance testing for Hazloc Certification (C-II), which is crucial for ensuring the safety and reliability of the system in hazardous environments like landfills.​

  • Test Plan and Testing Methodology:

    We developed a comprehensive test plan, including unit testing and functional testing. This plan outlined various test cases and methodologies to validate the system’s performance, robustness, and compliance with industry standards. A mix of manual and automated testing was designed to thoroughly evaluate the solution’s effectiveness in real-world conditions.

  • Automatic Testing Utility Development:

    To streamline the testing process and improve efficiency, we developed a custom test utility for automated testing. This utility enabled rapid verification of different components, saving time and minimizing human error during the testing phase.
